March 1794 - they purchased 66 acres in Bourgon County, ..."on Hinkston and Stoner Creeks."
1795 - purchased an additional 500 acres in Bourbon County, "...on Stoner Creek".
1795 - Rowan Co, NC military petition: John Purviance, James Purviance.
1796 thru 1809 - Was in Bourbon Co, KY.
1806 - sold land in Kentucky and moved to Darke County, Ohio.
December 1, 1802 - Deed Book A1, p-405, Williamson Co, TN: John Purviance of Bourbon Co, KY, $460 for 12 lots in Franklin on Big Harpeth River. Witness: James McCorkle.
May 25, 1805 - Deed Book A1, p-679, Williamson Co, TN: John Purviance (of Bourbon Co, KY) appoints friends John Mitchell and Abram Maury his attorneys to dispose of his interest in 12 lots in the town of Franklin. Witness: Wm Smith, Samuel Snoddy, Moses Lincoln.
Jan 9, 1809 - Deed Book B, p-165, Williamson Co, TN: John Mitchell, attorney for James Purviance of Bourbon Co, KY, sold land.
1817 - John was appointed Associate Judge on the Darke County Court.
1820 & 1830 - listed in the Federal census records in Darke County, Ohio.
July 26, 1830 - Martha (Snoddy) Purviance died, in Darke County, Ohio.
Sep 15, 1840 - John married
Jane Beggs in Preble County, Ohio. Listed there in the 1840 census.

Feb 16, 1851 - John died in Darke County, Ohio. His son wrote..."My father
died in Silas Fleming's in New Paris, Ohio. My sisters, Eliza and Lavina and
brother John, with many relatives and friends, were with him in his last sickness
and saw him breathe his last on the 16th day of February 1851 in the 81st year
of his age. He was buried by the siade of my mother." (Quote from "Samuel

John's son (John) "recalled in later years that when he was about ten years
old: "My brothers, my sisters and myself were sitting on the porch at my
father's house (when) we heard the cannonading from seven or eight miles farther
north. My mother could not remain in the house. She walked across the yard,
back and forth, with her arms folded across her breast, with a solemn countenance.
She spoke not a word more than to let her children know that their father was
probably in the battle."

Marshall Purviance wrote: "My father commenced school teaching at 18 years
of age and continued in that business most part of the time till about (age)

Notes for MARSHALL J. PURVIANCE:
In the spring of 1826, Marshall "visited my Uncle Samuel Snoddy and some
other relatives upon the Tennessee River." Samuel Snoddy, Jr. married Mary
Purviance on February 12, 1796 in Bourbon County, Kentucky.
In 1853, Marshall Purviance of Huntington County, IN, wrote "a short history of myself and family." "My father's name was John (Purviance), my mother's name was Martha. (Her parents) were Samuel Snoddy and Elizabeth Sloan." (Exerpt from John Hale Stutesman's book on Samuel Snoddy and Elizabeth Sloan.)
In the spring of 1826, Marshall
