"In 1860 census, William and J.W. whose last name is Holt but Susan showed them as Snoddy. Also in the household is 2 Snoddy children, Mary Emily Salome, and M. Susan who is 2y old. Also in the household is a 20y old hired hand, Perry Bates.

In 1870 Sarah and several children are still living in White Oak Towsnhip. One is James 15y old who is a Holt, 2 Snoddy Girls, Mary Emily Salome and Susan and 3 children Richard 8y old, Emeline 5y and Martha who is 2y old. The last 3 have the Snoddy name on the census record.

Sarah never married Perry Bates. I have not found him after the 1860 census. I have wondered if he died in the Civil War.

Susan Snoddy and James Bass had 3 children:

Arlene comes from the Mary Ellen Bass line. Arlene's Father was Arley Bass. Most likely the Father of Arley was William Virgil Hogan, but Mary did not marry him, her Sister Dinah married him. Researching has been very hard not knowing for sure the Father of Arley. Arlene is beginning to ask people in Ozark if they know anything about this, and maybe we will eventually get the information we need.
Mary Ellen Bass married Robert Greeson , March 20, 1905 and had a daughter Grace who married Elbert Staton.

Notes from Claudie Hallie Rose Prim:

"Mamma's oldest brother, Elec Snoddy, had epilepsy. Mamma, her brother Henry, and sister Nancy Karr, took turns keeping him. When Elec was at our house he had to have the East bedroom downstairs. Aunt Mollie bought clothes for him. When none of Mamma's brothers and sisters would take care of him, he stayed at our house all the time. This caused friction between my Mother and Dad, but Mamma had promised her Mother than she would always take care of him. She did. He died at our house and is buried at Houston Cemetery."

Notes from Claudie Hallie Rose Prim:
"Mamma had 5 sisters and 5 brothers. Mamma's oldest brother, Elec Snoddy, had epilepsy. She did. He died at our house and is buried at Houston Cemetery.

The tall headstones in Houston Cemetery were her parents and one brother Earnest who was killed by a train. When her parents died Mamma and Earnest made the crops. Uncle Ace and his wife, Effie, lived close to Uncle Henry. I suppose it was all part of the original Snoddy farm of their parents. Uncle Henry had a Dodge touring car. We rode with him a time or two to Decoration at Houston Cemetery. Hallie and Rose were two of Mamma's sisters. I spent lots of time with them. Aunt Rose always bought pretty hats for me. She thought everyone should wear a hat. I never liked to wear one except straw hat in the hot sun sometimes wore a bonnet. Aunt Hallie married Ben Douglass. He worked in the mines and later the bank in Coal Hill. When the bank went broke they went to Poteau, Oklahoma. I think that was a mining area. When they weren't making a living there, their oldest son Jim and Uncle Ben went to Detroit, Michigan to find work. Uncle Ben worked for a stove company, Jim was a bookkeeper and found an excellent job there for a reliable company and I can't remember which one.

Claud L. (Lee) Prim and Dial P. Snoddy were married at Alex, Arkansas on the 6th day of January 1907.

Births:

Dorothy Helen Prim October 11, 1907 (Married Ray Armstrong- One Daughter Dorothy Dial Armstrong Jacobs)

William (Willie) Henry Prim November 8, 1909 (Later called himself Bill) Later my brother Bill (William Henry) went to Detroit and stayed with Aunt Hallie until he found work. He married a girl named Beulah. They had a daughter named Gloria. He then married a Coal Hill girl named Virginia Quail. They married and had two boys, Terry ___ and Jerry Joe Prim. Virginia was a beautician and after brother Bill married her and sold ironing boards for a while, he went to beauty school and became a hair dresser. He and Virginia divorced. He went to Little Rock and met a girl named Edna Louise ____. They had a son named Alfred Joe. She died but Alfred Joe lives in Little Rock

Joe Ralph Prim March 24, 1912 (Wife Minnie - one son Joe Bill)

Claud Hallie Rose Prim July 24, 1917 (My name in the Bible was Claud Hallie Rose Prim. I don't know why because there were two boys before me. By the time I was school age I was Claudie. ) – Married Virgil Greer Lingle on October 2, 1936. – had two children-Jim and Myra Helen Lingle Earls).

Grandma Snoddy's maiden name was Dial. Mamma was the youngest of 6 girls in her family. Her parents were dead when she married. Uncle Henry was Jim Snoddy's Dad. Jim Snoddy was a state senator and ran for governor in 1956. Uncle Henry drove a Dodge touring car. He took us in it once or twice to Decoration (First Sunday in May) at Houston Cemetery. The tall tombstones close to Helen and Ray's graves are my mother's parents, Dorothy and Richard Snoddy, a brother Ernest, who died very young, run over by a train because he was drunk, lying on the track, and Uncle Asa (we called him Ace) died of cancer. His wife was named Effie. They didn't have any children. I remember going to his house to pick cherries, he chided me because I couldn't pick cherries very fast. There was another brother, Elmer, don't know how he died but some childhood disease I guess."

Email received from Dorothy Armstrong Jacobs on June 7, 2003:

Carol, My name is Dorothy Dial Armstrong Jacobs, daughter of Dorothy Helen Prim and granddaughter of Dial Estelle Snoddy Prim. I received information from Jim Lingle pertaining to the Snoddy family. My aunt (Jim's mother) used to send me letters containing information about our family. I always kept it but had the habit of putting it in such a good place that I could not find it. I finally came across some of the things that she sent. One was a letter from Charles E. Snoddy, Jr. 530 East 23rd Street New York, N.Y. 10010. It was sent to my aunt by Rita Snoddy Davis who is the daughter of Jim Snoddy ( I think). The other one was sent to my aunt Claudie in 1985 from a Lou Ann (no last name. If you do not have this information or Jim did not send it, I will be glad to send it to you.
